Preservation Education

"If we can teach people
about wildlife, they will be touched.
Share my wildlife with me.
Because humans want to
save the things they love."
- Steve Irwin
Preservation Education aims to connect the natural world to people through the use of technology. We hope to showcase worldwide issues through the worldwide web as a means to make people care for the animals, causes, and people that we share the planet with. We think conservation education is the first step towards meaningful change, and is most easily accessible to a wide audience via the internet.

Why is conservation education so important?

Education is the first step to understanding what issues exist and why we should care for them. The survival of other animals is crucial for the survival of our planet and ourselves. Once people form meaningful connections with a topic, they are more likely to take action. We hope to be a resource for awareness and passion for environmental issues relating to animal conservation.

Why use technology?

Technology has the opportunity to have a much broader and more accessible reach than traditional forms of education in conservation such as research journals, academic institutions, and zoos. Tech is already used in research and information communication, and can help us lessen our impact on natural spaces where tourism and research would normally take place.

How can we continue to use technology in animal education?

Using what we know about how traditional zoos go about education, we hope the internet can be used to apply the same methods of education in online formats. Social media can be used for engaging new audiences, remote research methods can be used to observe animals in the wild, and the internet can be used for citizen science and online conservation efforts.
